11/. Majestic Hotel has won the Bronze Medal at the MLA Black Box Culinary Challenge 2009. - On August 24th, 2009, they take the black box away to prepare their menu entries for the competition judging which will be subsequently served to 180 guests at a gala dinner.

The winning team will be awarded a grand prize of A$1200; the 1st runner up team will receive A$800 and the 2nd runner up team A$400. Special recognition will also be given to Best Appetizer, Best Main Course, Best Dessert and Best Table Display.

Meat and Livestock Australia, owner and key sponsor of the event, are delighted to be able to bring the event to Vietnam once more. Other key sponsors of the event this year are HTA, Chefs Guild Saigon, Mulwarra, Veggy, Classic Fine Foods Vietnam, Majestic Hotel Saigon and C & F Co.

This is the third time that Meat & Livestock Australia is holding this Culinary Challenge in Vietnam. The first event in 2004 was won by the team from the Sofitel Plaza Saigon who represented Vietnam in the MLA Black Box Culinary Challenge Regional Final in Australia September 2005 and went on to win the Best Main Course out of 18 international teams. The last Vietnam event was held in January 2008 and was won by Hotel Equatorial who were flown to Dubai to participate in the Global Final held during the WACS World Congress in May last year. In this event the team from Vietnam was ranked #9 out of 19 international teams and were awarded the Silver level certificate.

77 MLA Black Box Competitions have been held in 22 countries around the world since the first event in Bali in 1996. The competition is endorsed by WACS, the World Association of Chefs Societies.
